Topic: Silent Siblings/Marriage Stresses

Note: This will be our final meeting of 2018. We will resume in 2019.

Having a prodigal child can be a stress on their siblings and on their parent’s marriage. Siblings can feel neglected or wounded themselves. Marriages can be strained as couples work to be consistent and united in their care and in boundaries.

Ellen Dean, M.S., LPC-S, LMFT-S, CBC will facilitate this discussion. Pastor Chad has known Ellen for many years as a friend and appreciated her counseling practice. Ellen will guide our time as we address the impact of a prodigal child on a variety of family dynamics.

If you know someone who would benefit from the group, please invite them to join us.

Please let us know if you plan on attending. Contact Julie Roden.

About Wounded Parents:

During worship on February 18, Pastor Chad shared a personal testimony of the road he and Rhonda traveled as “wounded parents” (You can watch his testimony HERE, starting at the 41:09 mark).

Being a parent of a “prodigal” can mean a lot of different things to different people. At its core, it means you have a child (of whatever age) who has turned away from you, your values, or may be turned away from God. We want to provide support, encouragement, prayer, hope, accountability, and resources to the parents of prodigals.

There are a variety of topics that quickly come to mind for wounded parents – guilt, anger, fear, boundaries, communication, and grief to name a few. Over the next several months, we will get together to address such topics. The meetings will be on weekday evenings for an hour or so. When possible, we’ll bring in guest speakers to help us address the struggles of wounded parents.

Wounded Parents meetings are open to anyone, but conversations will remain confidential. Please invite others to join us for any or all of the gatherings. Topics will be announced in the Sunday bulletin ahead of meetings.

If you would like to be added to the ongoing communication list for Wounded Parents, contact Julie Roden.
